Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced on Wednesday, February 17, that 2,000 live hogs arrived in Tondo, Manila from South Cotabato.
In an interview with PTV-4, Roque said that the hogs will be delivered to various markets in Metro Manila in order to address the shortage of supply, and bring down the prices of pork products in the Philippine capitol.
“Kabahagi ito ng ating mga hakbang na ginagawa para maibsan nga iyong kakulangan ng baboy dito sa Metro Manila nang sa ganoon ay bumaba ang presyo ng baboy, at least umabot doon sa price cap na sinet ng ating gobyerno,” Roque said.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order No. 124 on February 1 in order to enforce price caps on select pork and chicken in the National Capital Region for 60 days.
EO 124 fixes the prices of pork products, particularly kasim and pigue at Php 270 per kilo, and liempo at Php 300 per kilo, while the price of dressed chicken should not exceed Php 160 per kilo.
