16 killed in latest military-BIFF clash

Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)

In the recent clash between the military and the Bangsamoro Islamic Liberation Front, 16 were killed, including four soldiers, in Maguindanao over the weekend.

The encounter happened in Brgy. Malangog, Datu Unsay at nine in the morning.

Based on the report of Capt. Blas Alsiyao of the 6th Scout Ranger Company to AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., his men exchanged fires with the remnants of the BIFF headed by a certain Commander Bungos.

The tension lasted for over an hour before the BIFF left with their injured members.

The military report stated that no troops from the scout rangers were hurt from the said encounter.

After a few minutes, another clash ensued in Brgy. Pamalian Shariff Saydona, wherein the government troops belonging to the 34th Infantry Battalion fought against the small group of the BIFF headed by a certain Commander Bisaya.

The military troops immediately sent in reinforcements and were able to kill Bisaya.

12 of the BIFF members were injured in the said encounter.  The military believed that the said group left their hiding place to conduct another series of uproar against the military.

6th ID Public Affairs Chief Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay reported that the BIFF tried to block the ambulance carrying the injured soldiers on their way to the hospital.

The military ambulance fell off at an irrigation canal and four died, including the driver.
