The Commission on Elections decided to hold the special Barangay elections in Zamboanga City before November 30, 2013.
According to COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr., they need to conduct the special elections before the term of the incumbent barangay officials expire.
Brillantes explained that this aims to avoid creating an extension to their posts to those who are currently seated.
COMELEC suspended the said elections in 98 barangays due to the damage caused by the recent standoff between the military and the rebel group Moro National Liberation Front, Misuari faction.
