On Saturday, September 8, a video went viral on social media after showing a group of street kids harassing and robbing a jeepney loaded with passengers along Macapagal Avenue in Manila.
In a post alongside the video, captured by Victor Bagatcholon III, he addressed that the group of kids first entered the jeepney while the spotlight was on red. However, in the video, the kids can be seen crowding around the jeepney with audible noises that can be heard. Later on, one girl went over to the left side of the jeepney and pulled the hair of a woman, who was seen carrying a child in the video.
In an exclusive interview of dzRH’s Henry Uri, Police Director Guillermo Eleazar addressed the growing number of robbery along the streets involving teenagers. Eleazar then justified those police officers were on standby in selected areas, however, they are not capable to supervise all the areas within their assigned vicinity at all times.
“Nagkaroon tayo ng follow-up operation at mga nasa 10 ang nahuling kabataan na involved,” Eleazar said. He also added the proper measure were then given to the arrested teenagers as they were instantly transferred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and will only be discharged to the custody of their parents or guardian.
The police director is also aware that once the teenagers will be released from the custody of DSWD, there are chances that they will go back to their old habits. He also added that the parents should be responsible for educating their children.
On the other hand, Eleazar also noted if there are any incidents in the future related to this matters, concerned citizens may contact the following numbers directed to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO):
