Vice President Leni Robredo, for the third year in a row, spearheaded the 121st celebration of the country’s Independence Day at Rizal Park in Manila on Wednesday.
Robredo, together with outgoing Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, was accorded arrival honors by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and led the flag raising and wreath laying ceremony.
In her Independence day message, Robredo reminded Filipinos of their responsibility of defending and preserving the freedom our heroes have sought for the coming generations.
“Sa pagtutulak ng interes na ito, inako natin ang responsibilidad na gumawa ng isang lipunang malaya, makatarungan, at makatao. Isang lipunan kung saan ang bawat Pilipino ay may oportunidad na mabuhay nang sagana at mapayapa,” Robredo said.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is expected to celebrate and lead the 121st Independence Day of the Philippines in Malabang, Lanao del Sur today as he skipped the ceremonies in Luneta Park.
“There must be some special reason, and I’m sure he will say that in his speech,” Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said on Tuesday during a press briefing.
