The University of Santo Tomas has formally welcomed coach Aldin Ayo as its head coach for the Growling Tigers’ Senior’s Men’s basketball team.
Based on the statement released by the UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics, coach Ayo was chosen due to his basketball program which considers the academics of student athletes.
“The basketball program that he espouses is based on discipline that gives primary importance to the academic life of the student-athletes.” UST said in its statement.
The university added that the champion coach also accepted a modest salary.
“Coach Ayo is a well-accomplished coach who is likewise more than willing to accommodate the university’s modest salary scheme.” UST further explained. “Thus demonstrating that his desire to provide proper guidance to his players in this educative process outweighs all else.”
Ayo will be replacing basketball coach Boy Sablan, who left the UST following a 1-13 win-loss record in the latest season of the UAAP Senior Men’s Basketball division.
Before being approached by UST, Ayo previously led the coaching staff of the De La Salle Green Archers and guided the team in winning the championship of the UAAP Men’s basketball tournament season 79.
Ayo is set to sign a six-year contract with the university.
