The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses took the lead in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament after dominating Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Lady Eagles in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20, on Saturday, May 11, at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.
Season’s Most Valuable Player and Best Scorer Cherry ‘Sisi’ Rondina contributed 23 points for the Tigresses to end their 15-game losing streak against the Lady Eagles, which started in 2012.
Rookie of the Year and Best 1st Outside Hitter Eya Laure also added 11 points as the UST squad stretched their winning streak to seven games since the elimination round.
Kat Tolentino scored 12 points to pace the Eagles in Game-1
The UST squad will seek to secure the championship on Game-2 on May 15, Wednesday, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. They last held the title on 2010 after beating the De La Salle Lady Spikers.
