Basketball coach Aldin Ayo couldn’t hold back his tears after the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers won their first game under his guidance.
On Wednesday, the Tigers won against the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 76-74, marking their first win in the UAAP season 81 Men’s Senior Basketball tournament.
During the post-game conference, a teary Ayo, who replaced coach Boy Sablan, said that UST deserved the win due to the community’s support to the men’s basketball team.
“Deserving ang UST kasi naramdaman ko si coach Boy, naramdaman ko ‘yung community, they deserve this, kasi grabe yung suporta” Ayo told reporters.
“Last year even though I was in a different team, I have to do my job, pero nararamdaman ko ang community. Lots of my friends are there. That’s why I transferred here. I just want to help this, this community, this university,” Ayo added.
The veteran coach, who previously coached the De La Salle University Green Archers, admitted that he had worries since the basketball team of UST only got completed three days before the opening of UAAP Season 81.
But, Ayo praised the players for adapting to the system, even though they lack practice due to injuries, and issues with their academics.
In last year’s UAAp, the Growling Tigers has a disappointing finish with only a single win out of their 14 games.
