The University of the Philippines Lady Maroons ended its 36-year long title drought in volleyball tournaments after sweeping the finals of the 2018 Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference.
On Wednesday, September 12, at the San Juan Arena, the Lady Maroons defeated the Far Eastern University Tamaraws within five sets, 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25, 15-13, to win the championship.
The conference’s and final’s Most Valuable Player Maria ‘Isa’ Molde registered 22 points to lead the Lady Maroons that went into an eight-point run during the fifth set after trailing behind by six points, 7-13.
Lycha Ebon scored 13 points for the Tamaraws that overcame an 8-0 point deficit in the third set as they attempted to extend the Final series up to Game-3.
This the first major volleyball title won by the Lady Maroons after winning the UAAP championship in 1982.
