The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) decided to suspend their basketball games scheduled on Saturday, September 15, due to the inclement weather caused by Typhoon Ompong.
“After due consultation and considering what appears to be a severe weather disturbance, the UAAP deems it best for everyone’s interests to cancel the basketball games tomorrow Saturday, September 15, 2018,” UAAP Season 81 president Nilo Ocampo said in a statement.
Affected men’s basketball tournament games include the match between the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles and the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, and the match between Adamson University Soaring Falcons and the De La Salle University Green Archers.
The suspension also covers the women’s basketball tournament games on Saturday that includes the match between the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers and the DLSU Green Archers, and the match between the National University Bulldogs and the Adamson Soaring Falcons.
UAAP also postponed the chess matches slated this weekend at UST, and moved them to Wednesday, September 19.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has placed Metro Manila under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 as Typhoon Ompong continues to move northwest.
PAGASA expects Typhoon Ompong to make land-fall in the Cagayan-Isabela area on Saturday before leaving the Philippine Area of Responsiblity on Sunday, September 16.
