Cabinet Secretaries Arthur Tugade of the Department of Transportation and Silvestre Bello III of the Department of Labor and Employment are already in the province of Cagayan on Friday, September 14.
Tugade and Bello travelled to Cagayan following the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte that members of his Cabinet should monitor the impact of Typhoon Ompong to various regions.
Upon their arrival, Tugade and Bello immediately met with Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba.
The two members of the Presidential Cabinet also checked the preparations of the Philippine National Police – Cagayan Valley for the expected onslaught of Typhoon Ompong.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) expects Typhoon Ompong to make landfall in the Cagayan – Isabela region on Saturday, September 15.
PAGASA has also placed Cagayan and Northern Isabela under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 4 due to Typhoon Ompong, which has a maximum wind strength of 205 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kilometers per hour.
