A transwoman on Tuesday was banned from using a female comfort room inside a Cubao mall in Quezon City.

According to reports, the victim identified as Gretchen Custodio Diez was prevented from using the restroom for women by a janitress who insisted that she use the men’s restroom instead. The transwoman then recorded the incident through Facebook live wherein she can be seen being held by the janitress.

“May utin ka pa rin. Tandaan mo ‘yan,” the janitress said, adding she will file a case against Diez.

Police authorities earlier said that they will file a complaint against Diez for unjust vexation, however, a few minutes after midnight, Diez told reporters mall staff members have dropped the charges against her.

Netizens expressed their support on the 28-year-old transwoman, among is Senator Risa Hontiveros who said that discrimination against transgender people is unacceptable.

“THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! A lawyer from my office is w/ Gretchen now. She has my full support. I am extending whatever help she would need to seek justice.,” Hontiveros said in her post on social media.

“She is being harassed for living her truth. Discrimination against transgender people has to STOP!” she added.
