Tourism Asec. Ricky Alegre clarified that the government will not be able to help business establishments who will be affected by the six-month closure of the island of Boracay.
In a DZRH interview, Alegre said that the Php 2 billion fund allocated by the government is only for the residents who will lose their jobs with the closure.
However, with the establishments in Boracay, they can always avail for loan in banks, and Alegre stated that they may be able to help with the terms.
Alegre believes that not all of the 17,000 workers in Boracay will be affected or be displaced. But they will focus on these workers and provide them with an alternative minimum wage job.
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the six month closure of the island starting April 26, to pave way for its rehabilitation.
