Three soldiers wounded in armed encounter with Maute – ISIS remnants in Lanao Del Sur


Three soldiers were injured following an armed encounter with remnants of the Islamic State – Maute Terror Group in Lanao Del Sur on Thursday, Jan. 24.

S/Supt. Madzgani Mukaram, commander of the Lanao Del Sur Police, said that the armed encounter started pass 8:00AM at the border of Brgy. Sumalindao, Sultan Dumalundong, and Brgy. Piyangulugan, Marogong.

Col. Gerry Besana, spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, confirmed that members of the 49th and 55th infantry battalions from the 103rd clashed with 30 terrorists led by a certain Abu Dar.

Dar is identified as Owaida Benito Morohomsbar, whom the military considers as the emir of the Maute group in Pagawayan and Pualas since July 2018.
