On June 13, the Supreme Court started the oral argument for the petition that questions President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao.

Albay Congressman Edcel Lagman appealed that the Supreme Court dismiss the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao since it lacks factual basis.

According to Lagaman, Martial Law is not needed to neutralize the Maute terror group and Abu Sayyaf group spreading violence in Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur.

The lawmaker further added that there is no actual rebellion or invasion in the Philippines.

Cong. Lagman is worried that the present Martial Law declaration will cause human rights abuses and violations similar to the Martial Law of former President Ferdinand Marcos.
