The late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. do not deserve a ‘hero’s burial’ at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
This was the statement of Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio during Wednesday’s oral arguments regarding the issue on the burial of the former strongman.
During his interpellation to Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares, Carpio insisted that based on the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ regulation 161-375, those who were dishonorably discharged in service and were convicted of moral turpitude are prohibited from being buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Carpio insisted that Marcos was dishonorably discharged, or was clearly ousted from office by the Filipinos during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
Colmenares agreed with Carpio’s statement and said that though President Rodrigo Duterte supports the hero’s burial for the late President, it is clear in Republic Act 289 that there is no place at the Libingan ng mga Bayani for those who are being despised by the Filipino people.
