Supreme Court expresses concern over latest killing of court judge

Supreme Court Administrator Midas Marquez is sadden with the death of Judge Ricky Begino of Camarines Sur.

During DZRH’s ISYU interview with Marquez, he admitted to getting close with the slain judge when he was elected president of the Municipal Trial Court Judges League of the Philippines.

Begino was the bridge in making sure that Marquez was aware of the sentiments of the other judges since he was in-charge of them.

When probed of the possibility of arming officials of the judiciary amid the increasing number of prosecutors, lawyers and other officers of the court getting killed, targeted by lawless individuals, Marquez said that it is not practical to provide security for them but is possible that officials from the Judiciary would opt to carry firearms in order to protect themselves.

Begino is the latest court official that was killed this year. The court judge was killed inside his home in Presentacion, Camarines Sur Tuesday night.

In line with this, the suspect responsible in killing Begino is now under police custody.

Authorities arrested Wilfredo Armea, 72 years old in Brgy. Sta. Maria, Presentacion around 9am on Wednesday.

Armea admitted of going to the victim’s home and when Begino opened the door, he shot him close-range.

Armea added that it was his plan to kill the judge because he allegedly meddled with a land case the suspect has with his relatives.

The suspect did not resist arrest.

Judge Begino was dead on arrival at the hospital, after sustaining wounds in the neck and other parts of his body.
