The Prosecutors League of the Philippines (PLP) will be conducting a “Black Friday Protest” as a sign of condemning the series of killings of prosecutors in the country.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has enjoined the prosecutor’s league in their demonstration and will be wearing black shirts during the said event.
According to the DOJ, in reference to the complaint of the PLP, all prosecutors nationwide, including the staff of the National Prosecution Service (NPS), are allowed to rally on October 6 to express their solidarity with the victims and their families and subsequently condemn the series of killings.
According to the PLP, three prosecutors have been killed in the span of two weeks alone.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre on Tuesday has issued Memorandum Circular No. 57, allowing the prosecutors to express themselves freely.
Aguirre also clarified that the protest is not mandatory and members may refrain themselves from joining.
