Solons hits Administration on differing statements regarding alleged ouster plot

House of Representatives

The Magnificent Seven of the House of Representatives criticized the administration due to the differing statements of President Rodrigo Duterte and Department of National Defense (DND) on the alleged ouster plot against the Chief Executive.

During a speech on Saturday, September 8, in Davao City, Duterte claimed that the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the Liberal Party, and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV have plans to remove him from his position in October.

Reacting to the statement, DND Sec. Lorenzana confirmed that the CPP and their armed wing New People’s Army has initiated a movement to oust the President, however they still need to verify ‘rumors’ that other groups have conspired with the communist organization.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde also said that they are still looking into the information of Duterte regarding the alleged ouster plot against him.

According to Albay District Rep. Edcel Lagman, the differing public statements prove that the Executive branch lacks consultation.

Meanwhile, Akbayan Party-list Rep. Tom Villarin believes that the Duterte Administration divulge the alleged destabilization plot in order to cover-up the various problems faced by the country, including the rising prices of goods.

Villarin said that the administration uses such tactics to manage the crisis, even though it causes further confusion to the public.
