Solon wants expiration dates labeled on eggs

A legislator filed a bill seeking putting expiration dates on eggs being sold on the market.

According to the House Bill No. 3363 filed by Nueva Ecija Rep. Estrelita Suangsing, poultry owners, distributors and retailers are required to label boxes, trays and other egg storage with proper expiration dates.

Under the bill name “Regulation of Egg Trade Act of 2013,” it seeks grading system on poultry products such as eggs based on its size, quality and freshness.

Suansing insisted that the filing of the bill on purchases and consumption of eggs is not really new to other countries.

The countries that have enforced such bills are Canada and United States.
