The Senate has decided to suspend their session until December 9 to give way for the deliberations of the bicameral conference committee on the proposed 2020 national budget worth Php 4.1 trillion.
Senate House Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri explained that the Upper House of Congress will not have work on Monday, Dec. 2, because of Pasay City Day, a holiday.
Meanwhile, the bicameral conference committee starts their hearings on the national budget on Friday, Nov. 29, and will also meet on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
“Since we have 15 members in the bicam, I don’t think we’ll be able to achieve a quorum in the plenary,” Zubiri said.
The senator also expects that Senate staff will have difficulties reporting to work because of road closures around the Philippine International Convention Center and the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
The PICC and the World Trade Center are both venues for several sports events of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
The meetings of the bicameral conference committee will be held at the Manila Polo Club in Makati City.
