The Senate is seriously considering summoning alleged gambling lord Bong Pineda in its next hearing on the controversies surrounding the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
According to Senator Panfilo Lacson, chairman of the Committee on Games and Amusement, Pineda needs to explain himself amid accusations that he operates 11 Small Town Lotteries in 11 provinces.
There are also allegations that, in the provinces managed by Pineda, the STL is being used as front for Jueteng, guerilla and bookies’ operations.
Aside from these, a PCSO director from Camarines Sur allegedly receives about Php500,000 whenever he visits the office of Everchange Gaming Corp, a company allegedly owned by Pineda.
The Senate Committees’ on Games and Amusement, on Ways and Means, and on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises are conducting a joint hearing on the proliferation of illegal gambling, and the said failure of the PCSO to collect revenues from STL.
The House of Representatives are also conducting a separate hearing on the issues concerning the PCSO.
