The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will formally invite Vice President Jejomar Binay into the investigation of the alleged overpriced Makati car park building.
Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Teofisto Guingona said Binay will be invited to the hearing to address the allegations against him over the supposed overpricing of the Makati project and his alleged ill-gotten wealth.
“We are going to issue the invitation within this week. We just have to confer kung anong date available ‘yung mga senators,” Guingona said.
The Senate blue ribbon subcommittee investigating the issue has sent formal invitations to Binay’s camp but was turned down because they alleged that the Vice President had already been prejudged by Senators Alan Cayetano and Antonio Trillanes IV.
Binay’s camp expressed that he will only attend the hearing if he is invited by the blue ribbon’s mother committee.
Guingona said the invitation to Binay is to avoid a dispute between the office of the vice president, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee and the Supreme Court, the possible last resort of Binay.
“My only reason for stepping in is to avoid the clash of institutions, so that we can make sure that everything, as much as possible, can go on smoothly,” he said.
Guingona assured Binay will be given fair treatment, respect and opportunity to answer the accusations he is facing.
