Sen. Cynthia Villar insisted that all of her family’s development projects in Boracay island has stopped ‘a long time ago’.
This is in response to the allegations that, amidst the rehabilitation of Boracay, Vista Residences, owned by the senator’s family, are continuing the construction of their Costa Vista residential condominium in the island.
Villar further added that, as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, she is committed to protecting and preserving the environment.
The female senator also insisted that her ‘duty to the nation’ is above and separate to the business interests of her family.
A video and photo of the alleged construction for the residential condominium has recently went viral in the social media after it showed a mountain in Brgy. Yapak is being leveled and cleared of trees.
Due to the controversial video, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has ordered all construction works in the popular tourist destination to be stopped.
Meanwhile, DENR has also discovered that the viral video was taken about a month before the tourist spot was closed last April 26.
In line of this controversy, Atty. Nalen Rosero, lawyer of Vista Lands and Lifescapes Inc., denied that the viral video and photos ‘pertains to their project site’ for Costa Vista.
