Sen. Joel Villanueva is appealing to the government to have stricter regulations in their deployment of Overseas Filipino Workers following the latter’s decision to implement a total deployment ban of OFWs to Kuwait.
The senator said that with this decision of the government, it will just cause more cases of illegal recruitment.
In line with this, Villanueva proposes for bilateral agreements with other countries for the protection of OFWs, and impose stricter regulation on employment agencies.
The senator revealed that there are about 260,000 OFWs in Kuwait, and about 10, 800 of them are undocumented cases.
Villanueva said during DZRH’s One On One.
Meanwhile, Villanueva reiterated his support on the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to order a total OFW deployment ban in Kuwait following the recent deaths of Filipino workers in the foreign soil.
According to the senator, the government should stop the deployment of OFWs in any country that maltreats our countrymen.
Villanueva explained.
The Department of Labor and Employment has released the order that prohibits Filipinos, OFWs and or tourists from going to Kuwait.
