Senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson considers the Catholic Church’s cooperation in resolving the issue on extrajudicial killings as a welcome development.
According to Sen. Lacson, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, his committee will coordinate with the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
Lacson’s statement came after the announcement of Lingayen, Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, president of the CBCP, that some police officers asked help from the church and are willing to testify against the government’s war-on-drugs.
Sen. Lacson explained that the statement of the said police officers should be clarified since the hierarchy of the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation are also investigating the alleged EJKs.
During the previous hearings of the Senate regarding the EJKs, the said deaths were not proven to be state-sponsored.
