Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero, chairman of the Senate Committee on Banks, Currencies, and Financial Institutions, asked the Department of Finance to regularly implement a lifestyle check for agencies, particularly the Bureau of Customs and the Bureau of Internal Revenue, that are under the government office.
According to Sen. Escudero, the lifestyle check of the BOC and the BIR should be regular since they are revenue collecting agencies. The Constitution also states that government officials, particularly those that handle taxes, should undergo a regular lifestyle check.
Sen Escudero believes that such action will greatly assist the anti-corruption campaign of the government.
The Revenue Integrity Protection Service (RIPS) of the DOF are currently reviewing the Statement of Assests, Liabilities, and Net worth of BIR and BOC employees.
RIPS seeks to examine whether the said government employees have a lifestyle that exceeds their legal income.
