The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has unveiled the final 12-man line up of the Philippine National Men’s Basketball team, also known as Gilas Pilipinas, for their match against Iran on Thursday, September 13.
Based on the Instagram post of SBP President Alfredo Panlilo, players Alex Cabagnot, Ian Sangalang and Scottie Thompson will be making their debut with the national team during the game at the Azadi Basketball Hall in Tehran, the capitol of Iran.
Seven players from the 2018 Asian Games line-up: Raymond Almazan, Beau Belga, Paul Lee, JP Erram, Gabe Norwood, Christian Standhardinger, and Asi Taulava will also be playing in the upcoming game.
Completing the line-up are Marcio Lassister and Allein Maliksi, who will be making their return to the national team.
Meanwhile, Greg Slaughter did not secure a slot in the final line-up even after the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) made the 7 ft. Filipno – American player eligible to play as a local in the national team.
Previously, interim national team head coach Joseller ‘Yeng’ Guiao said that he will not include Slaughter to the line-up if the player still cannot practice due to the injury in his left ankle.
The Philippines seeks to secure a victory against Iran in order to strengthen their chances of being one of the six teams in Asia to qualify in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
After their game in Iran on Wednesday, Gilas Pilipinas will return to the Philippines to host a closed-door game against Qatar at the Araneta Coliseum, Cubao on Monday, September 17.
