The Sandiganbayan has ordered the detainment of Davao Del Norte Rep. Antonio Floirendo Jr. for the anomalies involving the banana firm owned by his family.
The Sandiganbayan 6th Division has also set a Php 30,000 bail for the temporary release of Floirendo.
The arrest stemmed from the graft charges filed by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez against Floreindo for having alleged financial interest in the Tagum Agricultural Development Corporation (TADECO).
According to Alvarez, on 1969, TADECO, which is owned by the Floreindo family, leased more than 5 hectares of land from the Bureau of Correction in a deal that the House Speaker considered disadvantageous for the government.
The land lease with the banana plantation was renewed on 2003, when Floirendo was an incumbent congressman.
The House Speaker suspects that the Floirendo used his influence to pressure BuCor to extend the joint venture agreement by 25 years.
