The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will close the Estrella – Pantaleon Bridge, also known as Rockwell Bridge, starting 8:00AM on January 12.
Based on the advisory of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday, January 4, the closure is due to the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge that was initially set for September 2018.
“The project aims to widen the bridge to four lanes from its present two lanes,” the MMDA said in a Facebook post.
The DPWH expects the widening project will be finished by 2021.
On September 2018, the MMDA announced that the bridge, which connects Estrella Street in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City, will be demolished and replaced with a new bridge.
However, the DPWH decided to re-schedule the repairs to January due to public clamor and the ‘huge economic loss’ during the Christmas season.
