Presidential Son and Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte believes that the fight for the Speakership of the House of Representatives is not yet finished even after President Rodrigo Duterte already made his endorsement.

President Duterte endorsed a term-sharing agreement between Taguig City – Pateros District Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Distirct Rep. Lord Allan Velasco to settle the House Speaker row.

However, Rep. Duterte pointed out on Thursday, July 11, that the position remains open in the Lower House as they will still need to vote on July 22, the same day as President Duterte’s State of the Nation Address.

The neophyte congressman also said that an aspirant for the House Speaker position and his supporters allegedly have plans to stage a coup d’etat during the same day.

May election pa sa July 22 at doon ako mas interesado, kung sino ang mananalo,” Rep. Duterte said in a text message.

Kasi may bali-balita, may isa sa tatlo na balak mag-coup d’etat on the day. Mukhang hindi pa tapos ang laban para sa kanilang tatlo at sa mga backers,” the congressman added.

Under the term-sharing agreement endorsed by the Chief Executive, Cayetano will serve as House Speaker in the first 15 months of the 18th Congress. He will then be succeeded by Velasco who will lead the Lower House in the remaining 21 months.

President Duterte also endorsed Leyte District Rep. Martin Romualdez, another aspirant of the House Speaker post, to become the House Majority Leader.
