READ: LGUS suspend classes upon entry of Typhoon Ompong to PAR

Some local government units have already suspended classes following the entry of Typhoon Ompong to the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, September 12.

Classes in all levels for both public and private schools, are suspended on Thursday, September 13, in the following areas:

  • Paranaque City
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Balaoan, La Union
  • Aringay, La Union
  • Bangar, La Union
  • San Juan, La Union
  • Naguilian, La Union
  • Caba, La Union
  • Sudipen, La Union
  • San Fernando, La Union
  • Bauang, La Union
  • San Gabriel, La Union
  • Abra
  • Zambales
  • Cagayan
  • Arayat, Pampanga
  • Apalit, Pampanga
  • Samuan, Pampanga
  • Macabebe, Pampanga
  • Masantol, Pampanga
  • Minalin, Pampanga
  • Masantol, Pampanga
  • Santa Rita, Pampanga
  • Masinloc, Zambales
  • Camarines Sur
  • Dagupan City
  • Sorsogon
  • Maasin, Leyte
  • Candelaria, Quezon
  • Apayao

Meanwhile, the following LGUs suspended classes for all levels in both public and private schools in their area for Friday, September 14:

  • Cagayan
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Quezon City
  • Paranaque City
  • Zambales
  • Dagupan City
  • San Juan, La Union
  • Naguilian, La Union
  • Caba, La Union
  • Bauang, La Union
  • San Gabriel, La Union

  • Macabebe, Pampanga
  • Masantol, Pampanga
  • Minalin, Pampanga
  • Arayat, Pampanga
  • Santa Rita, Pampanga
  • Masantol, Pampanga

  • Angadanan, Isabela
  • Maasin, Leyte

Some LGUs have also declared suspension of classes for Saturday, September 15, in all levels for both public and private schools in the following areas:

  • Quezon City
  • Santa Rita, Pampanga
  • Dagupan City
  • Caba, La Union
  • Bauang, La Union
  • San Gabriel, La Union
  • San Fernando, La Union
  • Arayat, Pampanga
  • Apayao

As of 4:00PM, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Typhoon Ompong is located at 1,145 km east of Virac, Catanduanes, and moves west at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.

Typhoon Ompong has a maximum wind strength of 205 kph near the center and gustiness of about 255 kilometers per hour.

Currently, Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been raised over Catanduanes, while PAGASA warns that TCWS No. 1 can also be raised over provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur on Thursday, September 13.

PAGASA expects Typhoon Ompong to make landfall in the northern tip of Cagayan on Saturday, September 15, and to be outside PAR by Sunday, September 16.
