The Presidential Security Group (PSG) stopped President Rodrigo Duterte from riding a jet ski to Philippine Rise, popularly known as Benham Rise, due to the summer heat.
According to Brig. Gen. Lope Dagoy, commander of the PSG, the heat would endanger the health of the President.
Rather than the President, Special Assistant to the President Christopher ‘Bong’ Go, Presidential Son Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, and Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta partylist Rep. Jericho Nograles rode the jet skis along Casiguran Bay, Aurora.
On May 15, Duterte was supposed to sail to the 13-million hectare under-water plateau, almost a year after the region was renamed as Philippine Rise.
However, the trip was cut short and instead, the President headed the send-off ceremony for the 50 Filipino Scientists who will conduct research on the said underwater region.
During the event inside BRP Davao Del Sur, Duterte also signed a presidential proclamation declaring portions of Philippine Rise as marine-protected area.
