The militant group “Bagong Alyansang Makbayan”  is urging President Rodrigo Duterte to resume peace negotiations with the communist rebels amid the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front said that it is ready to settle to a bilateral ceasefire agreement.

Renato Reyes, Secretary General of Bayan, insisted that it is important that the government do not drop the peace talks, so that there could be a discussion regarding the reason of armed warfare.

According to Reyes, the talks for ceasefire will be smoother if the political prisoners will be immediately released. He added that this is the leftist group’s long-time wish for justice.

Reyes said that issues regarding the fighting can be addressed during the negotiations for the said ceasefire.

The “Bayan” group has also declared their support to the three-progressive members of the Cabinet who will meet with Prez Duterte today. They  hoped that the meeting will end positively, as the public is interested in the continuation of the peace talks.
