President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Tuesday threatened to replace all officials of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), as he lamented on the water shortage that hit parts of Metro Manila and Rizal province in March.

During the  PDP-Laban campaign rally in Tuguegarao City, Duterte slammed the officials of MWSS for its supposed failure to prepare for the El Niño phenomenon. He then proceeded on saying that he would not think twice of replacing the MWSS officials given the surplus of talented Filipino engineers.

“Maraming Pilipino dito. Maraming engineer dito na galing sa labas na mas marunong. Hindi lang nakakilala. There are millions of Filipinos waiting outside, more brighter than you, more smart kaya lang hindi nakilala kasi hindi mga politiko,” he said.

“I will not hesitate to replace you all,” he added.

It can be recalled that on March 20, MWSS Administrator Reynaldo Velasco vowed to resign if the agency fails to end the water shortage that has affected 1.2 million households serviced by Metro Manila east zone concessionaire Manila Water.
