President Rodrigo Duterte has given the go signal for the Department of Health (DOH) to teach children in the Kindergarten level to Grade 12 senior high-school level regarding the negative effects of illegal drugs.
Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles said that the government’s drug education program will be aligned with the main curriculum. He added that schools will be allowed to introduce preventive drug education in other programs.
According to Nograles, DOH will cooperate with the Department of Education, the Dangerous Drugs Board and other experts to develop materials for curriculum integration, co-curricular programs, teachers’ capacity building, and parents’ awareness and education.
The Malacanang official added that DepEd will also launch the ‘Barkada Kontra Droga’ program, which will have various activities including a Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week, parenting seminars, and a national drug education program.
Nograles explained that the government must strengthen the children’s awareness against drugs following the arrest of drug pushers in various schools.
