President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered the ‘freezing’ of several high-ranking officials and employees of the Bureau of Customs following their involvement in alleged corruption scandals, according to Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo.
In a statement on Wednesday, Panelo addressed that the names of the officials and employees involved in the scandal will be disclosed “at the appropriate time, as they face administrative and criminal charges, for unlawful activities.”
Panelo added that the administration has a zero-tolerance policy for corruption.
“The anti-corruption campaign is continuing as it is relentless. No one will be spared,” he said.
Duterte had said that Customs is among the most corrupt agencies in the government. During his speech last week, he revealed that he would be firing Customs officials involved in corruption.
