Malacañang on Thursday announced that it has discharged Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Marcial Quirico Amaro III due to the official’s alleged excessive foreign trips.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Quirico supposedly had a total of 18 foreign travels, amongst these only three were sponsored by organizers and the rest were supported by the government.
In 2016 Quirico also had six foreign travels making it a total of 24 foreign travels in a span of 13 months, said Roque.
“On Dec 22, the Office of the President received a complaint purportedly coming from employees of the MARINA complaining that Administrator Amaro had 11 foreign trips in 2017 alone,” Roque said.
“It turned out that the complaint of employees was wrong because while the employees said that Mr. Amaro made 11 trips in 2017 alone,” he added.
Roque stressed that Quirico’s dismissal was in line with the administration’s strict campaign to rid the government of any ill-officials and to comply with President Rodrigo Duterte’s order against lavish and excessive junkets.
Roque explained that President Duterte has not yet named nor given any potential replacement for the vacated post.
