Amid the resignation of former Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo – Teo involving the Php 60-million tourism advertisement in PTV 4 through her brothers’ Bitag Media, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo – Puyat as the new Tourism Secretary on Tuesday evening.
This 48-year old former Usec of the Department of Agriculture aided the government for almost 12 years, under three administrations. During the Arroyo era, Puyat was the consultant for Presidential staff and suddenly became Usec for concerns in the Aquino administration. Before being part of the government, Puyat served as an instructor for nine years in the School of Economics at University of the Philippines. She also came from a political family and attempted to run as congresswoman in 2004 but unfortunately lost to her opponent.
Puyat is bound to leave her post as the undersecretary for agriculture to take the position in the Tourism department which is currently confronting issues regarding the six-month closure of the Boracay island that is bound for reconstruction.
The appointment was confirmed by Special Assistant to the President Christopher ‘Bong’ Go after Duterte accepted Teo’s resignation.
