Police: Baby-buyer in Laoag plans to sell baby again

The police suspects that the buyer of a baby sold by his father, was planning to once again sell the child.

Senior Inspector Haydee Angelito said that they are still searching for Catherine Garcia, who bought the child of Francisco Palacio who needed the money as down payment for his motorcycle.

According to S/Insp. Angelito of Laoag City Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk, latest reports show that Garcia went to Cagayan Province.

S/Insp. Angelito also believes that ‘Catherine Garcia’ is not the real name of the suspect. the suspect is described as 25-30 years old woman, has an average height, and has curly hair.

S/Insp. Angelito discovered from Lanalyn Bituin, the baby’s mother and Palacio’s live-in partner, that the suspect threatened to kill her if she attempted to retrieve the baby.

Meanwhile, Palacio is imprisoned and is facing a non-bailable case of child trafficiking, while no charges were filed against Bituin, who is considered by the police as a victim of the incident.

“May ibinigay na Php 5,000 itong Catherine sa tatay. So pagkatapos nilang kumain, pinasama niya yung mag-ina niya doon sa Catherin na pumunta sa Laoag. Naiwan na si Francisco.” S/Insp. Angelito said during an interview with DZRH. “Talagang pinilit niyang (Catherine) kunin yung bata. Siya na ang humawak, hindi niya na ipinahawak sa nanay.”
