The Philippine National Police (PNP) Bicol Region has yet identify the motive for the murder of Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe even if charges have been filed against seven suspects, including Daraga, Albay mayor Carlwyn Baldo.
C/Insp. Malou Calubaquib, spokesperson of PNP – Bicol Region, said that they are still conducting an in-depth investigation to determine the ‘trigger’ that caused Baldo to order the assassination of Batocabe, who will be running against the mayor in the May elections.
“We are still trying to identify kung ano yung malakas na motivation bakit ito ginawa sa kanya despite the fact na malaki ang nagagawa ni Congressman Batocabe when it comes to public service,” Calubaquib said during an exclusive interview with DZRH.
On Thursday, Jan. 3, the PNP Chief Dir. Gen. Oscar Albayalde released a diagram showing Baldo as the mastermind of the shooting incident that killed Batocabe.
Albayalde said that Baldo planned the murder of Batocabe as far back as 2018, and that the mayor paid Php 5 million to a private armed group to commit the murder.
The diagram also implicated Henry Yuson, Rolando Arimado, Emmanuel Roselio, Jaywin Babor, Danilo Muella, and Christopher Naval, who revealed vital information to the authorities.
Baldo has denied the allegations that he ordered the shooting incident that killed Batocabe, and his security aide SPO2 Orlando Diaz after a gift-giving event in Daraga.
On Friday, Jan. 4, Yuson, a former member of the New People’s Army, surrendered to an army unit in Sorsogon, and further implicated Baldo to the murder of Batocabe.
