The Philippine National Police (PNP) recommended that a certain Emmanuel Judavar receive the Php 50 million reward gathered by various groups and personalities for the resolution of the murder of Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe.
According to PNP Chief Dir. Gen. Oscar Albayalde, Judavar was the key witness who testified that, as early as August 2018, Daraga, Albay mayor Carlwyn Baldo planned the assassination of his rival for the 2019 elections, Batocabe.
Judavar admitted to initially being part of the crime but backed out before it was committed. He also divulged the identities of six other individuals involved in the death of the congressman.
“Nagsimula naman kasi sa kanya lahat yun,” Albayalde told reporters on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
The local government of Albay, the Ako Bicol partylist, and members of the House of Representatives raised Php 30 million as reward to individuals who will provide information regarding the killers of Batocabe. It went up to Php 50 million after President Rodrigo Duterte added Php 20 million.
The PNP still awaits guidance from the Department of Interior and Local Government regarding the recipient/s of the bounty.
Batocabe and his security SPO2 Orlando Diaz were killed while they were leaving a gift-giving event for persons with disability and senior citizens at a covered court in Daraga on Dec. 22.
As of Saturday, Jan. 5, six prime suspects named by Judavar surrendered to the authorities. They also implicated Baldo as the mastermind behind the death of Batocabe.
Baldo has denied the allegations and insisted that he is being made into a convenient scapegoat.
