The Philippine National Police refused to place two former Immigration officials and retired PS/Supt. Wally Sombero under their custody.
Sombero along with Former Immigration Deputy Commissioners Al Argosino, and Michael Robles are currently facing plunder charges for their involvement in a Php 50 million bribery scandal.
All three of them are currently detained in Camp Bagong Diwa.
According to the eight-page opposition paper submitted to the Sandiganbayan, the PNP insisted that the government will only have additional expenses if the request of the three suspects will be granted.
The group appealed to be transferred to the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame due to threats in their lives.
Argosino also added that he is suffering from diabetes and hypertension which could become worse if he is imprisoned in Bicutan Jail along with numerous other inmates.
C/Insp. Romulo Flores, head of the PNP Custodial Center, also pointed out that the suspects have not presented proofs of the alleged dangers in their lives and are purely speculative.
