The Philippine National Police (PNP) targets about 77 active private armed groups with more than 2,000 members in the whole Philippines due to the upcoming elections.
According to PNP Spokesperson C/Supt. Benigno Durana Jr., most of the private armies are in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
Durana warned the private armed groups to not continue with their plans since the PNP have been monitoring their movements for two months.
The PNP have also been monitoring 226 armed groups, which also had more than 2,000 members and 1,000 firearms.
Durana said that these groups might have been inactive for a while but could have just been waiting for the start of the market season, or the election period.
