Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde confirmed he will step down from his post a week before his mandatory retirement, according to Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go.
In a statement, Go said that Albayalde agreed on the change of the turnover ceremonies at the PNP headquarters which has been scheduled on October 29. This is to accommodate President Rodrigo Duterte’s schedule as the latter is set to fly to Thailand for the ASEAN Summit in November.
Albayalde is said to retain his rank until his retirement takes effect on November 8.
The senator earlier said Albayalde’s possible successors include the PNP’s highest-ranking officers in Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, Lt. Gen Camilo Cascolan and Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.
