PNOy appoints new BUCOR chief

President Benigno Aquino III has appointed retired Gen. Ricardo Rainier Cruz to the Bureau of Corrections under the Department of Justice.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Usec. Abigail Valte said that General Cruz, a former commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command of the AFP will be replacing resigned BuCor Officer-In-Charge Franklin Jesus Bucayu.

Gen. Cruz’ term will end on June 30, 2016, same time as President Aquino.

General Cruz is a bemadalled military official who headed the capture of four high-ranking officials of the CPP-NPA-NDF and was instrumental in the surrender of 247 members from the communist group.

Bucayu had asked Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on April 2015 to find a replacement for him due to the many threats against his life.  His health also became a reason why he had to leave his post.

A source said that Secretary De Lima was happy when General Cruz accepted the said position because she and the President were having difficulties in finding a replacement for Bucayu.
