PHL qualifies to ITF World Juniors after 26 years; reaches finals in Asia-Oceania qualifiers

After 26 years, the Philippines made its return to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Juniors Tournament.

The Philippines Under-14 tennis team composed of Alex Eala, Alexa Joy Milliam, and Jen Prulla secured a slot in the upcoming tournament after making it to the top-4 of the Asia-Oceania qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Only 16 teams from all over the world will qualify for the 2019 ITF World Juniors Tournament which will happen in August in Czech Republic.

Aside from the Philippines, the Asia – Oceania region will also be represented by teams from South Korea, Japan and China

Meanwhile, the Philippine squad, coached by former nations player Czarina Mae Arevalo, also made it to the finals of the Asian Oceania qualifiers.

The young Filipina tennis stars defeated Korea in the semifinals and Hong Kong in the quarterfinals to secure a finals appearance. Earlier in the tournament, they also won against Sri Lanka, Indonesia and New Zealand.
