The Philippine National Men’s Football team tasted a 1-0 loss at the hands of South Korea on Monday, Jan. 7, in their first AFC Asian Cup game at the Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Philippine Azkals defended well against the Korean squad, who was missing their known forward Son Heung-min, a player for the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in the Premier League.
Hwang Ui-Jo finally broke the stalemate at the 67th minute of the game. The South Korean striker scored a goal inside the six-yard box after receiving a pass from Hwang Hee Chan.
The Philippines will face China in their next game on Friday, Jan. 11, at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, before returning to the Al Maktoum Stadium to go up against Kyrgyzstan on Jan. 16.
