The Philippine team plans to win 50 gold medals in the upcoming 2017 Southeast Asian Games.
This was declared by 2017 SEA Games Chef De Mission Cynthia Carrion during the send-off ceremony at the Center for Trade and Missions Department of Trade Industry, Pasay City.
Former Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner Carrion further added that, when she asked the Filipino athletes, they promised to bring home 63 gold medals.
Carrion explained that the Philippine team is already tired of always being behind neighboring countries during the SEA Games. She insist that the Philippines can be equal to countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand in the field of sports.
During the previous 2015 SEA Games in Singapore, Philippines finished in six place after winning 29 gold medals.
The send-off ceremony was headed by Philippine Olympic Committee President Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco, and PSC Chairman William Ramirez. National Youth Commission Chairman Aiza Seguerra, and Gilas Players Kiefer Ravena and Kobe Paras also attended the event.
Starting this August 11, the Filipino athletes will be flying in batches to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the 29th SEA Games.
