The Philippine Men’s National Basketball team secured their first win in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup after defeating the Brazilians, 15-7, on June 9 at the Philippine Arena, Bulacan.
Stanley Pringle, Roger Pogoy, and Troy Rosario each gave four points for the Philippine team, while Christian Standhardinger, who was recently reported to have injured his right knee, also contributed three points.
Meanwhile, Marcus Sarmento scored four points to lead Brazil.
However, the victory of the Philippines was short-lived after being defeated in their second game for the day against Mongolia, 21-17.
Tsenguunbayar Gotov finished seven points for the Mongolian team, while Delgernyam Davaasambuu and Tserenbaatar Enkhtaivan each registered six points.
In the Philippine side, Pogoy gave six points while Pringle and Rosario, once again, finished with four points each as the squad tasted their first defeat in the tournament.
Currently, the Philippines, with a 1-1 win-l0ss record, shares the second place in Pool C along with Mongolia and Russia, while Brazil tops their group after winning both of their games.
The Philippine team is set to face Canada and Russia on June 11, as they strive to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
